Hardy's monument

Not Thomas Hardy but his distant cousin Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, Flag Captain of HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Hardy became famous as it was in his arms that Nelson died, saying the immortal words 'Kiss me Hardy'. Fabulous views towards Chesil beach and the rolling Dorset country side.

The hill top town of Shaftesbury is best known for Gold Hill – a steep, cobbled street lined with thatched cottages and featured in the memorable Hovis advert.
